Lidl, one of the largest retailers, and WWF, a leading conservation organization, have announced a five-year international partnership active in 31 countries. This strategic alliance will enhance Lidl’s value chain, addressing global ecological challenges and promoting sustainable choices.

Sustainable Vision

Christoph Pohl, Chief Purchasing Officer at Lidl International, stated, “We aim to do business within planetary boundaries. With WWF’s expertise, we’ll elevate our sustainability commitment. Overcoming global challenges like climate change and nature loss requires strong partnerships.”

Kirsten Schuijt, Director General WWF International, added, “The food and retail sector plays a crucial role in reversing climate change and nature loss. Lidl’s leverage can drive sustainable change. WWF is proud to support and challenge Lidl on this journey.

Global Impact

This initiative follows Lidl GB’s commitment to WWF’s Retailers’ Commitment for Nature, aiming to halve the environmental impact of UK shopping baskets by 2030. Previously, Lidl and WWF collaborated in Switzerland and Austria. The new partnership expands these efforts globally to accelerate sustainability.

Key Focus Areas

  • Conservation and biodiversity promotion.
  • Responsible water management.
  • Climate protection with science-based targets.
  • Traceable, deforestation-free supply chains.
  • Responsible sourcing of raw materials and seafood.
  • Advocacy for sustainable diets and reduced food waste.

Lidl will support WWF conservation projects in sourcing regions, reinforcing their commitment to environmental protection.
