Meta, EDP Renewables Sign 250 MW Arkansas Solar Deal to Expand U.S. Clean Power Supply
- Meta signed a long-term power purchase agreement with EDP Renewables North America for the 250 MW Cypress Knee Solar project in Arkansas.
- The deal brings Meta’s total procured energy with EDPR NA to 545 MW across three agreements.
- Cypress Knee Solar is expected to generate about $25 million in new revenue for Chicot County and support several hundred construction jobs.
Meta Adds Arkansas Solar to Its Clean Energy Portfolio
Arkansas will host a new 250 MW solar project as Meta moves to secure more clean electricity for its U.S. operations.
Meta and EDP Renewables North America have signed a long-term power purchase agreement for Cypress Knee Solar, a project planned for Chicot County. The deal adds new renewable generation to the Arkansas grid and extends a multi-year energy partnership between the two companies.
For Meta, the agreement supports its strategy to match 100% of its annual electricity use with clean and renewable energy. It also reflects a wider shift among large technology companies. Data demand is rising fast, and digital infrastructure now requires more power, stronger grids, and clearer procurement strategies.
Cypress Knee Solar is expected to be completed by 2028.
A Third Deal Between Meta and EDPR NA
The Arkansas agreement is Meta’s third clean energy deal with EDPR NA. Together, the companies have now reached 545 MW of procured energy.
That scale matters. Corporate power purchase agreements have become a key route for bringing new renewable projects to market. They give developers long-term revenue certainty. They also help large power buyers manage emissions, cost exposure, and grid reliability risks.
“Cypress Knee Solar and our broader portfolio of projects with Meta are helping power a reliable, modern U.S. electric grid, the backbone of American innovation and long-term economic growth,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDPR NA. “These investments strengthen local communities, create durable economic value, and ensure that progress is built on a resilient, sustainable foundation. EDPR NA is proud to work with Meta as we deliver domestic power and advanced infrastructure that reinforce American energy independence and expand economic opportunity nationwide.”

The framing is deliberate. Clean energy procurement is no longer only an ESG exercise. It is now tied to energy security, regional investment, and the future of digital growth.

Local Revenue and Job Creation in Chicot County
Cypress Knee Solar is expected to bring long-term economic value to Arkansas communities.
Once operational, the project is projected to generate about $25 million in new revenue for Chicot County. That revenue can support public services, infrastructure, and local priorities. During construction, the project is expected to support several hundred jobs.
EDPR NA has also donated more than $77,000 to local institutions and community-based initiatives in Chicot County. These include the restoration of the Lakeside High School greenhouse, resources and supplies for the Lakeside Robotics team, and funding for the Lake Village food pantry.
For rural counties, clean energy projects can bring more than electricity. They can expand the local tax base, create construction activity, and fund community services without requiring heavy industrial development.
“Through our partnership with EDPR, Cypress Knee Solar will bring new generation to the Arkansas grid, creating local jobs and delivering economic benefits to the community. We’re proud to expand our collaboration with EDPR,” said Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy, Meta.
Why Executives and Investors Should Watch This Deal
The Meta and EDPR NA agreement sits at the intersection of corporate energy strategy, grid planning, and local economic development.
For executives, the key lesson is procurement discipline. Large companies with rising electricity demand need long-term energy planning. PPAs can reduce exposure to volatile power markets while supporting decarbonization goals.
For investors, the deal shows continued demand for contracted renewable assets. Technology companies remain major buyers of clean power, especially as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data centers increase electricity needs.
For policymakers, Cypress Knee Solar highlights the role of state and county-level energy infrastructure. Renewable projects can support national climate targets while delivering local revenue and jobs.
The broader significance extends beyond Arkansas. As U.S. power demand grows, clean energy buyers are moving from public commitments to direct infrastructure deals. Meta’s latest agreement with EDPR NA shows how corporate climate strategy is becoming part of the country’s power buildout, economic planning, and grid modernization agenda.
