- Macquarie Asset Management now fully owns Island Green Power, strengthening its UK renewable infrastructure portfolio.
- Island Green Power is transitioning into an Independent Power Producer, with over 15 GW of solar and battery projects in its pipeline.
- The move supports the UK’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan targeting 45–47 GW of new solar power by 2030.
Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) has acquired the remaining 50% stake in Island Green Power, securing full ownership of the UK-based renewable energy developer through its managed funds.
The move deepens Macquarie’s long-term investment in UK clean energy, having initially acquired a stake in Island Green Power in 2022. This latest deal marks a strategic pivot as Island Green Power shifts from a pure-play developer to an Independent Power Producer (IPP) — focused on building, owning, and operating solar and battery assets.
“We are excited to increase our stake in Island Green Power, a leading UK solar developer,” said Eric Bjonerud, Managing Director at MAM Green Investments.
“We have witnessed firsthand Island Green Power’s strong development capabilities… This will serve as a solid foundation for building a significant operating base over the coming years.”

Founded in 2013, Island Green Power has developed more than 3 GW of ready-to-build solar projects. It recently secured planning approval for two of the UK’s largest solar farms:
- Cottam Solar Farm (600 MW AC)
- West Burton Solar Farm (480 MW AC)
The company’s UK pipeline exceeds 15 GW of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

As part of the agreement, the founders will retain full ownership of Island Green Power’s international business. In the UK, Macquarie’s full acquisition aims to position the company as a key player in meeting the nation’s clean energy goals.
“We’re incredibly proud of what the Island Green Power team has achieved in building one of the UK’s leading renewable energy platforms,” said Ian Lawrie, Founder of Island Green Power.
“As the business enters its next phase with Macquarie, I have every confidence in the team’s continued success.”

The deal aligns with the UK Government’s target to fully decarbonise its electricity system by 2035 and add up to 47 GW of solar capacity by 2030 under the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.
Macquarie has committed over £60 billion to UK infrastructure over the past two decades and is currently backing £20 billion in future investments across energy, transport, utilities, and digital infrastructure.
