At COP29, the Multilateral Climate Funds (MCFs)—comprising the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Adaptation Fund, the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)—announced the launch of the Climate Project Explorer, an innovative AI-powered search platform designed to enhance access to climate finance information.
What It Does:
Developed in collaboration with Climate Policy Radar, a Google.org grantee, the Climate Project Explorer brings together project data from the four largest climate funds into a single platform. Users can explore nearly 4,000 climate projects worldwide, accessing detailed descriptions, concept notes, full proposals, and performance reports.

- Advanced Search and Filtering: The AI-powered functionality allows users to find and explore relevant projects based on specific criteria such as location, sector, funding type, and the particular climate fund.
- Stakeholder Engagement: The platform is designed for a broad audience—including governments, NGOs, researchers, civil society, and the private sector—promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Strategic Importance: The Climate Project Explorer is one of the concrete initiatives the MCFs are leading to enhance complementarity and coherence across climate funds and within the broader climate finance architecture. By streamlining and harmonizing access to information, the platform aims to strengthen access to climate finance and increase the impact of the MCFs’ work in support of developing countries’ climate goals.
Looking Ahead: The platform will evolve over time to include policies and additional information, further supporting efforts to streamline and harmonize climate finance data. This evolution will aid in project development and knowledge exchange, enhancing access to climate finance and promoting transparency.
