Spain Approves Nearly 300 Renewable Power Projects With $18 Billion Investment

- Spain authorizes 300 renewable projects, adding 28 GW capacity.
- $18.4 billion investment in solar, wind, and hydropower.
- Target: 81% renewable electricity by 2030.
The Spanish government has approved nearly 300 renewable power projects, aiming to boost the country’s green energy capacity by over 28 gigawatts. This move, announced on Monday, is part of Spain’s strategy to meet its ambitious renewable energy goals.
These projects represent a massive combined investment of over 17 billion euros ($18.4 billion). The portfolio includes primarily photovoltaic power plants, 43 wind farms, and a single hydropower plant, according to the Energy Ministry.
“Leveraging our sunny plains, windy hillsides, and fast-flowing rivers is crucial to our energy strategy,” an Energy Ministry spokesperson stated. Spain’s unique geographical features are key to this initiative.
Spain aims to increase the share of renewable-generated electricity to 81% of its total energy mix by 2030, up from the current 50%. This is a significant step towards a sustainable future and positions Spain as a leader in renewable energy in Europe.

This substantial investment underscores Spain’s commitment to green energy. “Our goal is to lead by example in the global transition to renewable energy,” said the spokesperson. This initiative not only supports Spain’s energy goals but also sets a precedent for other countries to follow.
With this approval, Spain is on track to significantly enhance its renewable energy infrastructure, reinforcing its position as a renewable energy powerhouse in Europe.
