Listen to this story:
  • Potential investment of $5.63 billion for 7 GW renewable projects.
  • Major push toward India’s 500 GW clean energy goal by 2030.
  • Could significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s green energy leadership.

India’s Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) is exploring a significant renewable energy investment, aiming to develop 7 gigawatts (GW) of green energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh, potentially investing approximately $5.63 billion.

The planned projects would include solar, wind, and hybrid solutions, with possible energy storage capabilities, positioning it among the largest renewable investments in the state.

This aligns with Tata Power’s broader ambition to invest up to $9 billion in renewable capacity expansion within five years.

Andhra Pradesh itself targets over 160 GW of renewable energy, representing an investment opportunity of up to 10 trillion rupees.

Despite India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, the country remains behind its goal of achieving 175 GW by 2022. Complex tender processes and inadequate interstate transmission infrastructure have hindered progress, leaving approximately 40 GW of renewable power agreements unsigned.

TPREL is committed to significantly expanding renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh, contributing substantially to India’s clean energy targets,” the company stated.

India recently issued a record 73 GW in renewable tenders in 2024, but about 8.5 GW went undersubscribed, highlighting structural challenges.

TPREL’s initiative could help bridge critical gaps in India’s clean energy trajectory.
