Listen to this story:
  • Massive Carbon Storage Expansion: Frontier’s Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub (SCS Hub) spans 100,000 acres in Wyoming, providing open-access CO₂ storage for industrial emitters and ethanol producers.
  • Baker Hughes Tech Integration: Baker Hughes will supply key CCS and power generation technologies, including CO₂ compression, well design, and NovaLT™ gas turbines.
  • Boosting U.S. Energy Infrastructure: The partnership enables the development of 256 MW of gas-fired power to support increasing demand from data centers and industrial operations.

Baker Hughes and Frontier Infrastructure announced a strategic partnership to accelerate large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) and power generation projects across the U.S.

Why it matters:

With rising energy demand and the push for decarbonization, this partnership strengthens the infrastructure needed for low-carbon energy solutions.

Frontier’s Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub (SCS Hub) is set to become one of the largest CO₂ sequestration assets in the U.S. The Wyoming-based project covers 100,000 acres and supports industrial emitters and ethanol facilities across the Midwest using a CO₂-by-rail strategy. The company has secured three Class VI permits and expects its first carbon injection by the end of 2025.

Tech advantage:

Baker Hughes brings crucial CCS and power technologies, optimizing well design, CO₂ compression, and long-term monitoring to enhance project execution.

Energy expansion: Frontier is increasing its infrastructure footprint with 256 MW of gas-fired power to meet surging demand in Wyoming, the Mountain West, and Texas. Baker Hughes’ NovaLT™ gas turbines will play a key role in delivering efficient and flexible energy solutions.

With energy demand rising across the country, industrial customers need scalable, low-carbon solutions, and Frontier’s expanded infrastructure will deliver exactly that,” said Robby Rockey, president and co-CEO of Frontier Infrastructure.
