SBM Offshore today announced a global collaboration agreement with Microsoft to develop AI-driven, carbon-free floating power solutions, responding directly to rising global demand for reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity.
The partnership combines SBM Offshore’s extensive expertise in scalable ocean energy infrastructure with Microsoft’s industry-leading capabilities in AI, cloud computing, and digital sustainability.

Key technological advances will include real-time carbon measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), predictive maintenance using Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI Foundry, and optimized lifecycle asset management.

The collaboration’s first phase involves deploying floating gas power solutions integrated with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology on the UK and Norwegian Continental Shelves, in partnership with Norway’s Ocean-Power AS. This pilot aims to establish a blueprint for broader global implementation across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas, enhancing regional energy security and decarbonization goals.
